Greenway Carpet Care provides earth friendly carpet cleaning in Victoria, BC, using a combination of technology, plus non-toxic cleaning agents to ensure your home is a clean and healthy environment to live in.

Greenway Carpet Care already had a website, but they wanted to take advantage of blogging and social media marketing. Star Global created a blog and linked it through the navigation bar of their existing website, and provided a live feed from the home page so clients can easily read new blog entries, and access links to social media websites like Twitter and Facebook.

In order for Greenway Carpet Care to increase usage of the website by providing relevant new information to the public on a regular basis, Star Global recommended Wordpress CMS (blog software) in order to maintain an ongoing and active posting of current industry news and information. This encourages people to return often. To help the Greenway Carpet Care manage stories, media information, and build a resource centre with articles, conference material, publications etc., Star Global also recommended using a blog to catalogue publically available, industry related information.

An RSS feed is provided with any blog software. Articles can be syndicated throughout the Internet, and users may subscribe the news feed using their preferred software or service.

Star Global designed the blog with a modern spin on their existing marketing materials, and when Greenway Carpet Care is ready to replace the website in future, the blog will already display their most recent marketing efforts.

Lasertech Floor Plans services the Commercial Real Estate industry, with accurate, CAD based, As-Built Floorplans for sales and lease marketing, or architectural/interior design/space planning base drawings, or computerized facility/property management data, with a uniquely developed technology and a range of services meeting the needs of this industry on a cost effective, nationwide basis.

Lasertech needed a new design for their website, and the ability to update the website in-house. Star Global first reviewed and catalogued the website pages and architecture. Star Global then redesigned the site with a new look & feel, revised the navigation, and created a playbook by reorganizing the site to build more unique headings and revamp front line messaging.

Star Global programmed the website into Wordpress CMS with integrated blog functions to direct traffic to current information, build a resource centre with articles, trade show material, publications, and connect to social media sites like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Youtube. The project also included a functioning website search, integrating the existing Knowledgebase (built by Star Global in 2008), plus porting and consolidating over 75 pages of text.

The website also has a contact page for multiple office locations, Google map, and Request for Quote form.

The end result was so well received that Lasertech is using the website design to influence other marketing, and trade show materials.

The Good Planet Company is a bricks and mortar retail store, located in downtown Victoria, BC, featuring an exciting range of earth-friendly organic products.

When The Good Planet Co. approached Star Global they had an outdated shopping cart system, and required an entire revamp.

In conjunction with the Good Planet’s ideas, Star Global designed the website and created a new look & feel, and established front line messaging to inform visitors what they can do. The website is built using CS-Cart shopping cart software that enabled the following features:

·        gift registry
·        one-page checkout
·        inventory tracking
·        statistics
·        return management
·        promotions and gift certificates
·        taxes, payment gateways and flat rate shipping
·        files can be imported or exported in CSV format
·        has an affordable license fee
·        design elements can be customized

A Wordpress blog was installed on the server, then customized for a consistent look and feel, and linked via the main navigation of the website. The Good Planet can use their blog to build a resource centre, catalogue & manage stories, and post sales notifications & videos.

Star Global helped The Good Planet Company activate their social media accounts, and maintain consistency with their branding (e.g. Facebook Vanity URL). Every page of the blog is also connected to social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

Star Global also implemented an email newsletter system by Constant Contact to collect contacts, send inexpensive and short communications, enjoy separate mailing lists, manage contacts emails, and have more frequent contact with customers. The email archive feature also allows The Good Planet Company to push the newsletter to social media sites, and encourage fans to return to their online web store.

Training was also provided along with a mini-manual to assist The Good Planet to perform required tasks and take control of the website at launch.

Victoria Women’s Transition House is a not-for-profit agency that provides emergency shelter services and counseling to hundreds of women and children each year, along with community counseling, individual and group, for abused women and their children, and a Crisis Line. VWTH is the leader in education and public awareness on these issues.

Star Global first provided consultation to determine the agencies needs by reviewing and cataloguing their existing web architecture, technology, and functionality.

Star Global also helped the VWTH design web survey questions to poll their membership base, to determine the current needs or the VWTH primary and secondary target markets, as well as perceived benefits or frustrations in terms of site content, navigation and overall effectiveness. This helped to provide a roadmap to move forward and ensure issues were met with respect to web-based needs and viral marketing.

Star Global produced a fresh new look and feel to achieve consistency with their brand. Star Global revamped the front line messaging, provided new architectural organization, created a visual calendar of events, along with a sign up area for their e-newsletter.

Star Global created the new website in Wordpress CMS (a content management system/blog software), which enabled a blog section for VWTH to catalogue news stories and educational material for volunteers, including a live feed on the home page, a website search, and share modules to social media networks.

Star Global also implemented an e-newsletter system by Constant Contact to allow for frequent and inexpensive communications with sponsors related to partner & fundraising events.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Google on Monday began adding real time results to its search engine, channeling feeds from Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other fresh content into responses to queries.

“We are here today to announce Google real-time search,” Google fellow Amit Singhal said at a press event held near the firm’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.

“Users will get results on results page as they are being produced out there. This is the first time ever that a search engine has integrated the real-time web into the results page.”

Twitter messages and other fresh content streamed into a box on Google’s main search page in a demonstration of the new feature, which will be rolled out at all English-language search sites in the coming days.

Google is planning to incorporate real time search in other languages beginning early next year, according to Singhal.

Online social-networking rivals MySpace and Google will be providing feeds of all public updates made by users.

“MySpace and Facebook users can decide what they want to see offered at Google,” said Google vice-president of search products and user experience Marissa Mayer.

Happiness, Social Networks, and other ties that bind

Posted in Social Networking Media on November 25th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

You Say Potato, I’ll Say Potato
How social networks influence our behavior and outlook

Connected: The Surprising Power of Our Social Networks and How They Shape Our Lives, by Nicholas A. Christakis and James H. Fowler (Little, Brown, 352 pp., $25.99)

Before Facebook, few of us asked others, explicitly, to be our friends. We didn’t monitor how many friends we had as an indication of our status or scroll through listings of friends of friends to pad our own list.

Yet the history of humanity is a history of social networking all the same, according to Nicholas A. Christakis and James H. Fowler, authors of Connected: The Surprising Power of Our Social Networks and How They Shape Our Lives. “Our connections affect every aspect of our daily lives,” they write. “How we feel, what we know, whom we marry, whether we fall ill, how much money we make, and whether we vote all depend on the ties that bind us.” And the burgeoning field of network research is revealing that “our connections do not end with the people we know.” Social networks take on lives of their own, transmitting information, germs, and habits between people who are nearly as tangentially linked as actors in the old parlor game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. “Friends of friends of friends can start chain reactions that eventually reach us,” the authors argue, “like waves from distant lands that wash up on our shores.”
